Table runner with unique Mayan ikat in the design. A stunning example of primitive backstrap weaving by our partner artisans in Guatemala. This Fair Trade, handwoven textile would make a great gift for a couple that loves the rustic and country home decor.
Ikat is very labor intensive for our artisans to make. The long yarns are first tied with waxed strings to form the designs and then dyed in large pots of dye. After the knots are untied some portions have not taken the dye and leaves the design. This resist dyeing technique leaves beautiful designs which then must be kept in perfect order while weaving so they don't lose the design. It is used in many of the typical Mayan designs and creates stunning textiles.
